Is Search Engine Optimization the Powerhouse it Used to Be?

Welcome back!

by Jan Shimano

There is no question about the fact that we all want to optimize our websites. It will bring us the targeted and free traffic that we want. The other alternative to searching out free traffic is to use pay-per-click (PPC). I would imagine, though, if we were given the choice, we would all vote for the free traffic any day. However, one of the problems is, many people become overly dependent on SEO and when the search engines make even minor changes with their algorithms, the free traffic sometimes dries up overnight.

I still believe that it is essential and, of course, beneficial to hone our SEO skills. Many think that is is a very difficult and complicated thing to learn. In my experience, I have found it to be so much easier than learning the intricacies of PPC. Even when I first started my business, I found it took very little effort to reach the first page of Google with my articles. When it happened the very first time, I thought it must have been a fluke. When it continued to happen with my following articles, I realized that it was not necessary to know much more than I already did to continually rank well with Google.

As a beginner to internet marketing, I thought back then, that there were well guarded secrets to ranking well on Google. I was expecting that I would have to take a few courses to be effective. However, my thinking was so wrong. There is such an abundance of free information available on the internet, than you can be trained and ready to take action in no time. I searched on YouTube a number of times and this often led me to a video that actually instructed me, step by step, on how to proceed.

Please do not relying entirely on search engine optimization for your traffic. I suggest that you acquire an understanding of pay per click advertising. You could also learn about affiliate marketing for other products or companies. This does not cost anything and there are many who only specialize in affiliate marketing and make a very healthy living at it. You can register at Clickbank for free and with next to no training you can, very quickly, be on the Internet selling someone else’s product and making money.

If you want to make even more money, you can create a product of your own. This is not as difficult at it sounds. There is a lot of free training available on how to create your own e-book, for example. When you have done that, you could even list it on Clickbank so that other affiliates can sell your product for you.

So you do not have to rely entirely on SEO to get great rankings on Google or the other search engines. For me personally, though, it is still the most effective way for me to get on page one. It’s good to keep in mind that in this business things can change in a twinkling of an eye, so you should still involve yourself with some alternatives. Never put all your eggs in one basket.

So is SEO still the powerhouse it used to be and is it still as relevant as it was in the past? My answer to both of these questions is a big YES. Obviously, there might be some changes in the future, but if it is free traffic that you are looking for, then I think getting a good understanding of SEO and puting it into practice is essential.
