Welcome back!
The advantages of starting an internet business are pretty attractivelucrative potential, low start up costs, flexibility in time and location etc etc. Combine advantages like that with a low barrier of entry, and the result is more internet business options than you can countof which a few are good and many are not.
That can make it very challenging for someone with little to no experience to know which business has a realistic chance of making money. Nonetheless, you can find one of the few good ones if you get educated on what to look forand what to avoid. Pay close attention to the 3 mistakes outlined belowthey will save you a lot of pain and frustration.
Here are the 3 biggest mistakes people make when starting an internet business:
1. They look for the business that makes the most money. Probably didnt see that one coming, huh? Making money is a good thing, and there is nothing wrong with adding multiple 0s to your paycheck. However, some people invest a lot of time, money and emotional energy before they realize a scary truth in business: you can make a ton of money and be MISERABLE. The point here is to begin with the end in mind. Take the time to investigate what really goes into the business you are looking to build and then seriously consider whether you can find satisfaction doing those activities.
2. They only evaluate how good they think the product is. Its a natural tendency that makes sense on the surface. We think about whether people will actually want to buy the product we are thinking about promoting. Not to mention, weve seen products like the iphone that have literally gone from 0 to millions almost overnight, and we think our ticket to financial freedom and the beaches of the world is simply finding the next big thing. This is biggest and most common rookie mistake I see people make. Besides the fact that demand is a very difficult thing to guess accurately, the reality is most people could get exclusive access to the next big thing and they wouldnt know what to do with it. Thats why its FAR more important to evaluate the marketing system you would use and its ability to train someone who has little experience. Aside from your personal ambition, this is the biggest factor determining whether you succeed in starting an internet business.
3. They are lured in by ground floor opportunities and startups. At first glance, this seems pretty logical too. Who wouldnt want to be in on the ground floor of a company that is going to take off!? Unfortunately, once the emotional high of getting in on the ground floor wears off, the vast majority of people are left with a company or product that is gasping for air on the verge of failing. This shouldnt surprise anyone since the vast majority of businesses fail, and the percentage of internet businesses that fail is even higher (think easy come, easy go). What people are really looking for is a company that is on the verge of explosive growth. Its not really that hard to tell if a company is gasping for air or ready to explodeif you know what to look for. This is part of what I cover in my complete home business success checklist (link below).
Starting an internet business can be intimidating. After helping thousands of people get their home business off the ground, these are some of the most common mistakes Ive seen time and time again.
I regularly get asked what other mistakes people make when starting an internet business. Unfortunately for the lazy who arent diligent enough to do thorough research, nearly all the concepts that lead you to success are contrary to what you would think if you havent studied the industry. Thats why I compiled a comprehensive checklist of the specific components you can use to make sure the internet business you are looking to start isnt leading you down the path of inevitable failure.
